As the never-say-stop Mumbai races about, there are hearts that march to a different beat. Set against the urban landscapes of Bombay, ‘Country of Bodies’ is a dance film that narrates the personal and intimate relationship of the city and its inhabitants.
The film began with a specific feeling of a certain disconnect with the city and evolved to find a way to make peace with the chaos and the hustle. Mumbai is a city that not only inspires the images of prosperity, glamour and bling, but also, of extreme
contrasts and hardship. Going beyond the notion of the city of dreams and Mumbai as place of illusions, the personal experiences of being here are quite harsh and is explored in the film through dance. It is not as much about the romance and beauty of Bombay as it is about the internal spaces of the people of Bombay. The locations, choreography and music is all expressionistically evoking that delicate line that Mumbaikars walk everyday, between holding on and letting go.
