Dance to me is like home. I am at ease when I dance. My body is obedient to the sound of music and knows how to translate it into movement. While rehearsing for the film Country of Bodies, I started to get a feel of the character within the choreography. The day we went to shoot, I was taken off guard with the set, as this was not one of the usual studio spaces that we are used to dancing in. There was hot metal everywhere, people welding different railway parts together, sparks flying all over the place and most of all, the hot tin roof that aided to that edgy raw feeling that most people relate to in the city of Mumbai . It was probably one of the most dangerous environments to perform in. But as soon as the music played, all obstacles were forgotten, all fear was lost and our characters took over. In the scorching heat I was lifted in into air, pulled away by strong arms and even rolled onto the floor, but all in perfect harmony with each other. It was like a sliver of beauty within a nightmare. It was an ironic symphony and I felt protected. This experience for me was not only memorable but a perfect amalgamation of art, music and the love for dance.
